"Wood in several species is the material we love to work with, supplemented with textile and paper, sometimes metal.
Cabinets; tables; lamps; strong icons which are connected with memories of the sense of security of a home, change into design-mixed-art-work and become an installation.
Archetypical buildings, architecture from ancient cultures to futurist imagination, become maquettes and change into a world of beauty, fantasy and fiction.
Memorial Cabinets, Maquettes, Cubinets and Cubilights. The subjects often match and get together!"

The Eightpointed Star, (the shadow reaches far). Design inspired by the eightpointed black star in the flag of Alphen aan den Rijn.

Eight cores counts Alphen aan den Rijn, it is the definitive size of the city: Alphen, Boskoop, Hazerswoude Rijndijk, Hazerswoude Dorp, Benthuizen, Koudekerk, Zwammerdam, Aarlanderveen. Eight villages are together a city in the Green Heart of the Netherlands, as a binding element.

23 August 2018

It is a maquette for a black steel frame with 8 glass trappeziums, which form a star also.

23 August 2018

The first design.

"Bankgebouw" (Bankbuilding). Plywood. Wooden object/bench for our shop Dreespassage 7 in the Doorloop Alphen aan den Rijn. Rooftops reflected in the canal (bottom of the bench). Design Wharfworks, technic ART2B2.

23 April 2018

WHART had the assignment in 2016 to redesign the artist-room in Castellum theatre Alphen aan den Rijn. We used vintage leather chairs and a sixties table in the tv corner.

23 April 2018

Everything vintage, except the corten steel Wall lamps. I designed a sort of skyfy face and Ton did the technical work together with a welder. Also the two tables are WHART handmade from teak.

23 April 2018

The very large teak table (6 mtrs.) we found in a antiques farm. The VIP 2000 fauteuils from Marcel Wanders were already there . Behind the table the Cartoon Cast with the artist year-book and possibilies for artists to draw on a canvas for the Wall.

23 April 2018

Cartoon Cast. Special made from an old cupboard for the artist-room in  theatre Castellum Alphen aan den Rijn by WHART (2016).

11 February 2016

11 February 2016

This huge lamp we made for the Rap&Graph Gallery in Castellum Theatre Alphen aan den Rijn. Handmade paper with dried flowers inside and the same flower forms in the wooden shade.

13 November 2015

The Cubinet that we made a year ago, is now totally

integrated in our home. Full of memories of Ton's journey to Australië in May this year.

10 November 2015

"Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter". Installation for Keramix 2015 Zoetermeer. (7 t/m 29 november, za/zo 13-17)

Pottery made by ceramist Anke van der Kwaak. The Japanese signs stand for the four seasons. Ton and I made four new whitewax boxes with the seasons in fretwork covered by Japanese ricepaper. The whitewash paint is actually oil, lineseedoil, which is environmental friendly. The boxes are made from ecoboard "grasswood".The tablelegs are recycled.

24 July 2015

By order of Stichting Orion, a health facility for people with a disability in Rotterdam, ART2B2 designed a cabinets wall, intended for the delivery shop. Ton has the supervision of the rebuilding of the office and the workshops for daytime activities. The body of the cabinets is made of chipwood. Ecoboard (grasswood) is used for the doors. Through the white paint the beautiful structure of the grasswood is visible. Nice to see that WHART's eco investigations lead to use in practice!

16 April 2015

Grasswood Ecoboard table with grasswood cubinets in the show-window of Galerie Beeldverhalen.

The table legs are stainless steel, designed to get a fragile image.

16 April 2015

Daylight shining through the fretwork leaves.

The cube in the middle is a lamp.

16 April 2015

The ecoboard top we polished with Epifanes for boats, very strong and shining. The table legs are treated with varnish for steel.

Notice the sign of the bamboo branches!

16 April 2015

Which you can see here, daylight shining through.

05 April 2015

The Dragon and the Koi.

05 April 2015

At 11th of April I visited the Cherry Blossom Festival in Amstelveen. (See pictures at Blog Beeld). From that moment the story of the carp and the dragon came to me. The myth tells that the carp stands for strengh, wisdom, perseverance and luck.

05 April 2015

"At the source of a river, behind a huge waterfall, there lived a big black dragon. This dragon terrorized the whole world. Nobody could beat the dragon. One day a big carp swam up against the river and was capable to reach the top of the waterfall.

05 April 2015

When the carp arrived there, it changed into a white dragon. And the white dragon succeeded to defeat the black dragon after a strong fight.  From that moment the carp became a holy fish for as well Chinese as Japanese people!"

21 March 2015

The Koi, the Matisse and the Dragon in living room setting. Moon (from Billy und Hells) on top.

Asian aesthetics fascinates us. Japanese culture, design, gardens, film and food. Attention for details, the refinement.

03 March 2015

"La Peruche et La Sirene", famous work from French painter Henry Matisse. When he was too old to be able to paint, he made a huge work on paper, a garden from paper leaves, a bird and a female figure.

Because I made a study from his work during my Art Academy time and because there is an exhibition coming in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, I honoured him with this light object.

03 March 2015

This light object is a prototype, a study for a series of these lamps. It looks like the Lotek from Benno Premsela, a Duth designer. But finally it has the looks of a Chinese lantern. And we are inspired by Chinese culture since a long time. The Tao, Tai Chi, it has no secrets for us! In our filmcollection there are beautiful Chinese artistic lessons about wisdom and the human mind. Asian aesthetics fascinates us, Japanese expression in film, culture, design and food!

03 March 2015

My design and idea, but I am hopeless without the great construction skills Ton has: fretwork, black lace, coloured hand made paper and an electric installation!

03 March 2015

When there is no light on or sun shining, the lantern looks neutral.

03 March 2015

Four sides, the colours of Matisse'work: blue, pink, green and orange.

"The Red Memorial" 02/02/2015

Artist painted multiplex. High polished, doors covered with silk embroidery. Height: 160 cm.

03 March 2015

Within the Red Memorial we made a removable gate-installation.

The China inspired cabinet became a memorial because of this gateway.

And the text points out the big red one!

03 February 2015

Experiment with multiplex, inspired by Nienke Janssen, (3D Design HKU and 4 years furniture craftschool). She made a collection furniture from multiplex , the plates were sticked together and shaped after that.

Second craftwork Ton made is a multiplex Toyota, which goes to Australia.

03 February 2015

Grasswood Ecoboard Cubinet with bamboo design, front side. (01/2015)

The cubes are removable.

Ecoboard is environmently friendly board made from natural rosin and grasses. It gives a beautiful golden gloss.

02 February 2015

Cubes turned.

The fretwork forms are covered with hand dipped rice paper.

Light inside the cubes makes it all a lightning object!

02 February 2015

Grasswood Ecoboard Cubinet with fern design.

The legs of the side table are recycled and made from 4 diner table legs.

10 December 2014

"Cubinet". Prototype of our first chipwood cabinet.  The cubes, on a sidetable with recycled oak legs, are removable.

At the moment we are busy with our second design: a grasswood Cubinet. Grasswood is our name for Ecoboard, environmental friendly board with a number of good qualities.

(12/2014)

10 December 2014

The cubes always fit exactly in all directions. In proportions of cm.: 15/30 15/45 30/30 30/45-40 deep.

10 December 2014

Every day another Cubinet.

10 December 2014

Our Cubinets can be used as a storage for books, lp's, or a collection of treasures. But it is also just a monument, architectural.

10 December 2014

Fretwork leaves in some of the cubes filter the light.

10 December 2014

Our designs are made with respect for, but also inspired by nature.
